23 Things ... the end?

I have completed the 23 Things, so is this the end? Let's think about that, just for a moment, do I continue on using this as a tool to assist me in my library work and personal endeavors or be really creative and think of other ways in which to use any of the tools that I have been exposed to. I like all of those options. So, that is my charge and should be yours. Let me know what you think about my blog and I don't mind negative comments but really like positive ones. Hope you enjoy looking at my blog as I have had a blast doing this. Have a suggestion -- why HCPL couldn't use podcast on our website (if that is possible to do) to record storytime readings of some favorite books or of library news or news for Board of Directors...just thinkin outloud. Thank you Maryland Library 23 Things and Harford County Public Library for giving us the challenge and time to do this project. This is SaraSmile.

Well, it's been a good while since I was bloggin, 7/27 I think was my last entry. I do find it sad that others are not checking out blog sites that others have created and leaving their comments to share. I try to check a couple out each time I login and leave at least one comment. I find it very frustrating that very few have completely filled out their profile screen, under About Me, so that others will know who they are. So, now back to more bloggin fun...SaraSmile. #21, Useful tools for searching podcasts, try Podcasts/Merlin seems very useful. #22, downloadable audiobooks I probably will never use but glad that it is out there for others to use. #23, Summary of 23 things: before I began I had no idea what a blog was or what 23 Things was. Because I like learning by trying this was a great learning experience. I learned how to create my very own blog, explored Flickr, found out about RSS feeds (I owe Debbie Ruth a McD's lunch for explaining that one to me), looked at online image generator and Rollyo, found out about tagging and discovered Delicious and Technorati, and then learned about Wikis and the Learning 2.0 Sandbox, then used an online word processing tool and that was lots of fun to use, then looked at the Web 2.0 awards list, then had the most fun getting a poll posted on my blog and others have voted - check it out, and also great fun doing a YouTube feature on my blog, and then looked at some podcast searching tools, and learned about downloadable audiobooks, and finally to do my summary posting about this learning experience. I have also realized how important it is to select the right colors for text, background, foreground, etc. when creating a blog page, so that text and colors can view clearly while still being creative in the creation. What a kick.

Week 9 #20

Having trouble with You tube. Not sure what I'm doing wrong or do I have it done correctly...how do I know? Don't seem to have enough time to play so will ask one of the 'already done' bloggers to help me next week. SaraSmile. I finally got this to work...what a kick, it was really great getting this to work and on my blog. SaraSmile.

What a kicker that was, to create a document and then post it on my blog. I think this really has potential for anyone to use it. Can't wait to try more, more , more.

This is a test document just so I can try using this new web feature, Zoho Writer. It doesn't seem to be much different than using Word or any other word document. I just got an alert about sending this as a non-encrypted document ... now what does that mean, something else to learn about I guess.

Week 7 #16, 17

Wikis, well think they are shared created websites for anyone or group to create and use. By having many different links and information to share with others. Possibilities: to show new titles lists by format for librarians, show neat sites for answering questions at librarians desk, share ideas, share things that you know work. Also could share what works behind the scenes too, like titles just ordered, what new formats of materials are being ordered and how are they processed/shelved. Oh, and could share examples of how our materials are shelved, and what not to do to an item (*like librarians never would add labels to an item for their own branch stuff).
Marylandlibrariessandbox -- I added my blog to this list....it was amazing to see it and it actually works, my entry when clicked brings you to my blog, how amazing is that! Now what do I do with that information now....wait and see what I can come up with now.

Having some trouble creating my Delicious and Technorati accounts but will continue on and get back to this later...I was able to read some of the articles about Web 2.0 and my mind can only wonder and guess how it will be used and change in the future. It makes me glad that my library promotes use of new technologies and keeps our library up to current with changes with technologies so our customers will have access to the most current features available as that is what we do isn't it...provide materials and information -- what better way to do it then with the web, information that is.

World Cat

Looked at World Cat for the first time...oh boy what a cool feature to use. Not only can you search for and find the item you are looking for on a World Cat search on the web, but you can search and find it in your local library at the same time---this is something that I had wondered if anyone would ever get to developing (many years ago) and here it is. Really cool!

Created a Rollyo. Not sure about this thing either. What will this do for me and how can I use it. Don't have a clue but sure I'll find out. I've had fun trying new stuff...blogs and stuff...and more stuff. Even discovered that Blogs now has an option for you to view the new up coming changes before they are implemented called DRAFTBLOG. Not sure I want to view my blog that way so I won't make the change, today anyway. More later.

Once I realized that I was going to be working with stuff, like blog pages, blog groups, etc. that I needed to reach quickly, I added them to my Favorites list....boy this has helped me out!

Well, I think I have successfully created my first blog link. It links to our HCPL blog list as of 6/12/07. This could be a wonderful thing, just not sure how yet. It does make the mind start creating and thinking.

Technology Fair at HCPL was great! It really was. Everyone should feel great about the special job that they did participating in something this great. Wish I had more time at each table. Not sure how any piece of what was shown or anything else out there might be used by me, my team or the library. I do feel confident that anything that we can use to promote better library service, better library information, and better library materials will only enhance our service to our customers which of course is not only our local population but anyone that can access us on the web. What a thought, anyone, anywhere, anytime, that is HCPL!

Libraries 2.0 Lifelong learning

6/7/07 I watched the Libraries 2.0 Lifelong learning tutorial. Very much with right-on information about learning throughout your life. We should never give up and think that we cannot learn anything new. We should enbrace learning no matter what our age. Now that I have completed the first week of Libraries 2.0, here I go to the 2nd week.
